EA’s Track Record of Shady Dealings and Its Monopoly on Sports Titles

Being a prominent publisher within the videogame industry promises a great deal of power, responsibility, and influence. Prominence comes at a price however, as every action is scrutinized under a magnifying lens of epic proportions. Publishers are susceptible to immense criticism and disapproval if questionable actions are made. Electronic Arts is one such company that has been framed in a negative light on numerous occasions within the past few years.

Back in 2006, they established themselves as the exclusive supplier of mobile games for all Nokia devices. More recently, controversy surrounding the purchases of multiple small development studios solely for intellectual assets, criticism from labor groups, and EA’s arguably declining game quality have contributed to its designation as an “Evil Empire.” read more

What is the best ever video game console?

Game consoles have come along way since the Brown Box, a prototype console designed in the late 60s that featured two controllers and switch board. We’re now in the 7th generation of machines and it’s almost time to sell your xbox games console because the 8th generation is set for release in 2014. And with better eSports info and upgraded equipment rolling into the market every now and then, the choices are aplenty. But after all these years, which is the best console ever?

Sales

According to units sold, the most popular console in history is the Sony PlayStation 2. Released in 2000, the device went on to shift 155 million units, over double that of the PS3, which sold 77 million units, and the Microsoft designed Xbox 360, which sold 77.2 units. Judging by this, you could conclude that the PS2 is the best game console ever. However, this does not tell the entire story, after all, the game console was traditionally the plaything of adolescent males. While manufacturers now market devices and games at a wide range of consumers, this is only relatively recent development. If older models had been marketed in a similar way, then perhaps their sales figures would have been higher. read more

The Ouya GameStation: a Game-Changer for Videogames?

It was only a matter of time until someone would do the math, and come up with such a brilliantly obvious idea.

The past few years brought forward interesting developments for the video-game industry: the astonishing rise of casual mobile gaming, the advent of low-cost, high-performance SOC’s (system-on-a-chip) such as NVidia’s Tegra 3; the demand for a particular standard of video-games from a crowd that never really took interest in gaming.

Technology evolved in such a way, it’s nowadays possible for independent developers to create visually advanced, state-of-the-art computer games with the help of game developing platforms like Xsolla, which run perfectly on devices that can be purchased for as low as $100. read more

COD: Black Ops II for PC Review

When I am not writing code or fixing PC issues, I will play the occasional PC game. I have long been a fan of the call of duty series. Besides the recent Modern Warfare 3, I have pretty much enjoyed all the COD games I have played. I recently picked up Call of Duty: Black Ops II for PC and figured I would give it a review.

Graphics

I thought the graphics for this game were pretty good. However, I thought that they would have been a bit better. I own battlefield 3, which came out well over a year ago, and and the graphics for BF3 are better than this game. I was hoping that Black Ops 2 would set a new standard in game visuals. In fact I started playing Call of Duty Zombies on Black Ops II to see how that was, and it was incredible. I actually found a site online which gave me all the tips and tricks to get through as many rounds as possible. Like whether a perk improves your guns or quickens your reload time (I would definitely try this as the zombies get faster and more violent in higher rounds!), and how to get constant access to the mystery box. read more
